Bauer Hockey recalls dangerous goalie masks

Hockey enthusiasts in Kentucky may be interested to know that Bauer Hockey has recalled two of its goalie masks from the market. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the face cages on the masks can fail, potentially causing facial injuries to hockey players.

Bauer Hockey said it has received nine reports of cage failure in the masks. Eight cases took place in Canada, and one case occurred in the United States. Laceration injuries were reported in the single U.S. incident and in three of the Canadian cases.

The defective products are the Concept 1 Goal Mask and the NME 10 Goal Mask, which both feature Certified Titanium Oval Wire, and the RP NME Ti Titanium Replacement Cage. The masks were sold in white and black and featured a titanium cage held in place by two screws. The Concept 1 is a Senior mask available in sizes S/M and M/L and has “Concept C1” printed on the top. The NME 10 is a Senior mask available in sizes Fit 1, Fit 2 and Fit 3 and has “NME10” printed on the top. The RP NME Ti is a replacement face cage for the recalled goalie masks.

The masks and the replacement cage were sold in independent sporting goods stores across the U.S. and online from April 2013 through February 2015. The masks sold for $900, and the replacement cage sold for $90. Bauer is instructing consumers to immediately stop using the recalled items and contact them for a free replacement cage and a complimentary throat protector.

Kentucky residents who have been injured by a dangerous product may benefit from consulting with an attorney. It may be possible to file a product liability lawsuit against the responsible party seeking compensation for medical costs and other damages.
