What to do if you are hit by a car while biking

Accidents between bicyclists and vehicles happen everywhere, and can happen to anyone. Even Kentucky residents may find themselves being hit by a car while biking along the side of the road. So how should people handle this situation?

Safe Bee states that the first order of business should be to call the emergency services or to ask any nearby witnesses to contact the hospital if injuries make it too difficult to move. People who are hit by vehicles should remain at the scene in order to give police accurate information about the accident. This will also help them to avoid further injury, as they may exacerbate issues if they attempt to chase down their assailant. They can also look less sympathetic if they angrily go after the driver who hit them.

Police and insurance companies will need the corroboration of witnesses if they were around at the scene. Because of this, the second thing that should be focused on is collecting information of anyone who has stopped to help. They can provide testimonials later on when battling for insurance coverage, or they can even be used in court.

ACTIVE states that the third and final thing that should be done is to exchange information with the driver. Things like their name, address and telephone number should be collected. Additionally, the car plate number and the make and model of the vehicle could also help, as well as identifying factors such as bumper stickers or damage on the car. This will come in handy later when police are investigating.
