Louisville interchange semi accidents under investigation to determine causes, solutions

Truck accidents can occur for a wide variety of reasons, some of them within truck drivers’ control and some of them not. For truck accident victims, it is critical to work with experienced legal counsel to explore all potential contributing causes to an accident, and to hold all potentially liable parties accountable, including state agencies responsible for highway design and maintenance.

Each state and local government has its own administrative structure when it comes to managing highway construction and safety. State and local agencies responsible for such matters are expected to act with reasonable care in executing their duties to ensure the public is safe from harm.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the state agency responsible for constructing and maintaining federal and state highways in the state of Kentucky, is reportedly conducting a close examination of several recent truck accidents on the Speghetti Junction interchange in Louisville. The interchange, as readers may know, reopened earlier this year after an extensive rework that was intended to improve safety.

One of the accidents occurred back in July when a semi tipped while taking a turn, causing glue to spill and coat part of the interstate. Several weeks later, a semi crashed into the interchange wall and spilled livestock all over the interstate. Then, earlier this month, a third semi accident occurred in which a semi caught fire.

The transportation cabinet is currently examining the crash reports for these accidents to determine what exactly caused them. It remains to be seen what will become of the investigation, and whether additional changes will be needed to ensure the interchange is safe for semi trucks.

In our next post, we’ll continue looking at this topic, and the importance of working with an experienced personal injury attorney when seeking compensation for personal injuries from state and local agencies.
