Graco recalls 4.7 million strollers in U.S.

Parents of young children in Kentucky may be interested to learn about a massive recall of Graco strollers. Approximately 4.7 million Graco strollers in the United States have been recalled as a result of a potential finger laceration or amputation hazard. The recall was announced on Nov. 20, and 11 different models were included.

The stroller recall was the result of 11 reported injuries that were suffered by children riding in Graco strollers. A folding hinge on the strollers has been found to be a hazard to small fingers. One of the reported injuries involved a finger laceration, four reports involved a partial amputation of a fingertip, and six reports involved a complete fingertip amputation. It is unclear if there have been any product liability claims filed on behalf of the victims.

Graco strollers that are affected by the recall are all single-occupant models that were manufactured between Aug. 1, 2000 and Sept. 25, 2014. The recalled stroller models are the TravelMate, Sterling, Solara, Sierra, LiteRider, Kite, Glider, Cirrus, Capri, Breeze and Aspen. Owners of any of these stroller models may contact Graco to receive a repair kit at no cost. Before the repair kit arrives, parents and caregivers are advised to be cautious while unfolding the strollers and make sure that the stroller hinges are locked in place before putting a child in the seat.

A person who has been injured by a defective or dangerous product may decide to file a products liability claim against the manufacturer. If the injured party is a child, the child’s parents may file a claim on their behalf.
