One killed, three injured in Kentucky crash

A 36-year-old woman was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Dixie Highway in West Point on Feb. 22. Louisville Metro Police said the crash occurred near the border of Jefferson County and Hardin County at approximately 1:15 p.m.

According to authorities, a Toyota was driving south on Dixie Highway near Stiles Station Road when it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. It struck a northbound Chevrolet truck and then spun into a second northbound Chevrolet truck, colliding with it head-on. The front seat passenger in the Toyota suffered multiple blunt force injuries in the crash and was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where she later died.

Three other accident victims, including a child, were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. The child was transported to Kosair Children’s Hospital. The driver of one of the Chevrolet trucks was not hurt. Police shut down Dixie Highway for almost four hours as they investigated and cleared the wreckage. They said they have not yet determined if weather played a role in the accident.

When a family loses a loved one in a car accident, they may face tremendous financial hardship in addition to their grief. Unexpected medical bills, funeral costs and loss of income could make it difficult for a victim’s family to make ends meet. A personal injury lawyer may be able to help recover compensation for those losses by filing a wrongful death claim against the driver who caused the fatal crash. By using accident investigation reports, witness statements and other evidence, a lawyer could prove the at-fault driver is liable for a victim’s death. Such a lawsuit could result in the award of compensation for medical expenses, funeral and burial fees, lost wages and loss of inheritance.
