Texting and driving is a dangerous combination that many states, including Kentucky, have identified as illegal to do. In Kentucky, young drivers are prohibited from all cell phone use while driving, and all drivers are banned from texting while their vehicles are in motion. The reason that texting and driving is so scrutinized under the law is because drivers who are distracted by their cell phones can and do cause dangerous and often deadly collisions.

However, texting and driving is not the only way that distractions find their way into drivers' lines of focus. There are many other activities that may steal drivers' attention away from the roads they are on and put them and others at risk of harm.

For example, eating and drinking while driving can distract drivers from their operating duties. Individuals who attempt to shave, put on make-up, or take care of other personal grooming needs while driving may miss important road signs or traffic patterns and wind up in devastating vehicle collisions. Changing music, talking to passengers, reading maps, watching streaming programs, and a multitude of other activities may be identified as distractions and may create major problems for drivers and other motorists.

When a motor vehicle accident victim is harmed in a crash caused by a distracted driver, it is important that they protect their rights so that they may later pursue the compensation that they deserve and need to recoup their collision-related losses. Their personal injury attorneys can help them work through the laws that will govern their possible actions as well as strategic decisions that may impact their cases.
