What physical issues are associated with Essure?

Essure is a permanent birth control device that some women have opted for. However, this device can cause many physical side effects in the people who have it, ranging from small grievances to issues that may require surgeries to correct.

Some common physical symptoms associated with Essure include pain or cramps in the back, pelvis or abdomen. Additionally, people can experience pain during intercourse. Menstrual cycles may also be affected, leading to extreme pain during a period, early menopause, lengthened menstrual cycles, spotting between periods, excessive amounts of blood, or no period at all. Cysts may also form along the fallopian tube, ovaries, uterus or vagina. Issues with the autoimmune responses could also occur. This can include fatigue, itching sensations, rashes, mild to severe headaches, and even issues with brain functionality.

There can also be physical problems with the device itself. It may migrate, irritating other parts of the body. There have been cases in which the spring has poked through the fallopian tube and caused damage to other internal organs, or even become stuck in them. These issues are generally more severe and require surgeries such as hysterectomies in order to remove the product. Normally the fallopian tube will also be removed in reoperations, which are much more common with Essure than traditional sterilization procedures.

Our web page has more information on the Essure lawsuit and the symptoms many women face after having this device placed into the fallopian tubes. If you are curious about potential symptoms you might be suffering from, please take a look.
